Marriage Crisis

Here in the USA where the divorce rate is at 50% this leaves me with the question, is marriage not sacred anymore? Its supposed to be the union of 2 people who love each other, a vow till death do them part, for better or for worst…Yet, people run to the altar  before they’re even ready or have taken heed to what a marriage entails. With the state of marriage in today’s society, you’d think people would take their time.

Before any one gets married, they should be certain this is who they want to spend the rest of their life with. And yes, although people change, and some situations are indeed irreconcilable, nowadays it seems no one even attempts to try. There are those individuals that see all warning signs before hand and ignore, or are simply marrying for all the wrong reasons (e.g. money). Divorce just might be inevitable for them.

It doesn’t help with such a brainwashed, media frenzy society who witness all these celebrity’s public relationships ending in divorce. The biggest joke to me was Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. What a terrible representation and mockery of everything marriage stands for. Even worse was the message this union sent about the sacred institution of marriage. Straight people can get married for the sake of ratings, but two committed, same-sex partners can’t seal their union in the name of love?

Hollywood has turned marriages into business deals. “Marry me and half of your money is mine.” I am deeply confused as to why a person, who had no part in the generation of one’s income, should have rights to their assets. That should be illegal. Seems like theft if you ask me…But that’s why there are annulments right? Even that to me is ridiculous since this is the person you’re supposed to love and trust “forever”.

For those not yet married, slow it down folks. And for those folks on the brink of a divorce, make every attempt to work it out. ;-)

  1. “Straight people can get married for the sake of ratings, but two committed, same-sex partners can’t seal their union in the name of love?” This kills me. My thoughts exactly.
